Photochemical Studies, 63. — Photostability of Some 1,4‐Benzodiazepines in the Crystalline State. UV irradiation of chlorodiazepoxide ( 1 ) and its hydrochloride led to three photoproducts: 2‐<[(3‐chlorophenyl)phenylmethylene]amino>‐ N ‐methylacetamide ( 2 ), 1‐benzoyl‐ 7 ‐chloro‐1,2‐dihydro‐3‐methylaminoquinoxaline ( 3 ) and 7 ‐chloro‐3,4‐dihydro‐2‐methylamino‐4‐phenyl‐ 5H ‐1,4‐benzodiazepine‐ 5 ‐one ( 4 ). The photochemical degradation of 1 , 1 ‐hydrochloride, diazepam and nitrazepam in the crystalline state have been investigated and determined densitometrically.
