Total Synthesis of (±)‐Bonellin Dimethyl Ester Bonellin ( 1 ) is the green sex‐differentiating pigment of Bonellia viridis , a marine animal widely distributed in the Mediterranean Sea. Bonellin dimethyl ester ( rac ‐ 2 ), has been synthesized from the four monocyclic building blocks 6, 7, 8b, 10 and the selectively cleavable malonic ester 9 by an highly convergent synthetic concept.
