Evidence for the Occurrence of Masked α‐Hydroxy Aldehydes in Mammalian Tissue Lipids If samples of mammalian tissue lipids are treated with dithioethyleneglycol, Et 2 O ‐ BF 3 , and acetic acid, bound α‐hydroxy aldehydes are converted into dithiolane derivatives. After reduction, they are separated from large amounts of accompanying lipid derivatives by TLC. The trimethylsilylated samples have been investigated by GLC and GLC/MS.
