The 5,7‐dimethoxycoumarins, gleinene ( 3b ) and gleinadiene ( 2 ), which naturally occur in Murraya gleinei root bark, have been synthesized in four steps from 7‐hydroxy‐5‐methoxycoumarin ( 1a ) in overall yields of 45% and 19%, respectively.
