Addition of the Lithium Derivatives of 4‐Alkyl‐3‐morpholinones to Carbonyl Compounds

By addition of the lithium derivatives of some substituted 4‐alkyl‐3‐morpholinones to carbonyl compounds, a series of racemic 2‐(1‐hydroxyalkyl)‐4‐alkyl‐3‐morpholinones 2 and 3 was obtained. The stereochemical course of the reaction is discussed on the basis of the isomer ratio of 2b (determined by 1 H‐NMR spectroscopy).
