The total synthesis of the enantiomers of sporogen‐AO 1 [13‐deoxyphomenone ( 1a )] was achieved in 25 steps from 2,3‐dimethylhydroquinone ( 5 ). Only the natural (+)‐enantiomer was bioactive on Aspergillus oryzae .
