A practical preparation of TM‐α‐terpineol ( 4 ), cis ‐TM‐β‐terpineol ( 6c ), trans ‐TM‐β‐terpineol ( 6t ), TM‐Δ 1,7 ,Δ 8 ‐menthadiene ( 7 ), its spirocyclic epoxide ( 5 ), and TM‐isocryptone ( 8 ) is described (TM = tetramethyl). Some of the new tetramethylated monoterpenes, unlike the simple C 10 ‐monoterpenes, have a woody‐ambergis‐like odour.
