Two novel tricyclic triazepinones structurally related to the reverse transcriptase inhibitor nevirapine were prepared from N ‐(2‐nitrophenyl)‐ and N ‐(3‐nitro‐2‐pyridinyl)‐1 H ‐pyrrol‐1‐amine. The synthetic sequence includes alkylation, reduction of the nitro group, triphosgene reaction followed by intramolecular cyclization. Activity of the two compounds against the HIV‐1 multiplication in acutely infected cells is also reported.
