A stereoselective five‐step total synthesis of the hitherto unknown carbocyclic alpha ‐L‐dideoxyhomonu‐cleosides starting from readily available (1R,5 S )‐2‐oxabicyclo[3.3.0]oct‐6‐en‐3‐one is described.
