The synthesis of novel 1‐alkyl or 1‐aryl‐2‐(4‐substituted‐1‐piperazinyl)‐1‐ H ‐benzothieno[2,3‐ d ]imidazoles 7e‐x starting from 2‐nitro‐3‐bromobenzo[ b ]thiophene is described. These compounds were prepared as potential H 1 ‐antihistaminic agents.
