Mesitonitrile oxide reacts with isopropylidenemalononitrile to give mono‐ and bis‐1,2,4‐oxadiazole derivatives 2 and 3 and Δ 2 ‐soxazolines 4 and 5 in moderate yields. The dipolarophilic character of the ethylene and nitrile functions in these cycloadditions is examined.
