A general synthesis of 3‐amino‐3‐alkylpropenenitriles is described. These intermediates are further transformed to 5‐amino‐3‐alkylisothiazoles. Also described is the synthesis of the novel isomer, 3‐amino‐5‐ t ‐butyl‐isothiazole.
