Various 8‐hydroxy‐5‐deazaflavin derivatives were synthesized as the model compounds of coenzyme F 420 ‐These compounds oxidized benzylamine to benzaldehyde more efficiently than the corresponding 8‐unsubstituted 5‐deazaflavins.
