The synthesis of novel methoxy‐derivatives of 2‐phenyl‐1 H ‐benz[ g ]indole 3 by condensation of α‐naphthyl‐amines 1 with N ‐phenacyl‐pyridinium salts 2 is described, as well as their conversion into the corresponding hydroxy‐derivatives 5 . Unexpected quinoxaline derivatives 4 were obtained when in the condensation reaction the N ‐nitrophenacylpyridinium salts 2d,e have been used.
