Abstract When dissolved in liquid ammonia 5‐chloro‐1,2‐dihydropyrimido[5,4‐ e ]‐1,2,4‐triazine ( 1 ) and 5‐methoxy‐pyrimido[5,4 e ]‐1,2,4‐triazine ( 4 ) quickly convert into 5‐aminopyrimido[5,4‐ e ]‐1,2,4‐triazine ( 2 ). When 2 is kept in liquid ammonia containing an excess of potassium permanganate, 3,5‐diaminopyrimido[5,4‐ e ]‐1,2,4‐triazine ( 5 ) is formed.
