The investigation into the synthesis of 4 H ‐1,3‐benzodioxin‐2‐ones, utilizing the corresponding 2‐(hydroxy‐methyl)phenol as the starting diol, is described. The results illustrate that the synthesis of 4 H ‐1,3‐benzodi‐oxin‐2‐ones can be achieved utilizing carefully controlled reaction conditions, in a 3–15% yield.
