On décrit les voies d'accès aux formyl‐1 hydroxy‐2 méthyl‐9 anthracène et formyl‐1 hydroxy‐2 diméthyl‐9,10 anthracène. Ces deux aldéhydes ortho ‐hydroxylés sont transformés en anthra[2,1‐ b ]furannes mono‐ou diméthylés, ainsi que les acides et esters correspondants, par condensation avec le bromoacétate d'éthyle. Ils donnent par ailleurs des nitro‐2 anthra[2,1‐ b ]furannes mono‐ou diméthylés par traitement au bromonitrométhane, suivi de chauffage dans le toluène en prèsence d'acide para ‐toluène sulfonique.
