A new epoxy derivative of ß‐angelica lactone has been synthesized. Its chemical behaviour towards nucleophiles has been explored in order to prepare natural products with a trisubstituted ß‐hydroxy‐γ‐methylbutyrolactone‐type constitution. Thus, some potential precursors have been obtained and an efficient and stereo‐controlled synthesis of (±)‐blastmycinone is reported.
