The synthesis of the new 1‐ethyl‐5,6‐dimethyl‐7‐(4‐methyl‐1‐piperazinyl)‐1,4‐dihydro‐4‐oxo‐1 H ‐pyrrolo[3,4‐ b ] pyridine‐3‐carboxylic acid ( 12 ) was carried out using ethyl 4‐amino‐2‐methyipyrrole‐3‐carboxylate as the starting material. Compound 12 was devoid of antibacterial activity in vitro .
