The reaction of 5‐aminoimidazole‐4‐carbohydrazides with orthoesters is shown to yield 1‐amino‐9‐alkyl‐hypoxanthines. Similar reaction of anthranilic acid hydrazide is shown to yield 3‐amino‐4‐quinazolone, and not 1,4‐dihydro‐5H‐1,3,4‐benzotriazepin‐5‐one as previously reported.
