6‐Demethoxyacronycine ( 9 ), containing the acronycine nucleus, has been readily synthesized in two steps via the reaction of N ‐methylisatoic anhydride with the enolate derived from 2,6,7,8‐tetrahydro‐2,2‐dimethyl‐5 H ‐1‐benzopyran‐5‐one ( 8 ) followed by oxidation with DDQ.
