Enaminones and ketoenamines bearing a hydrazine type substituent undergo side chain thermal cyclization, the former into benzoxazol‐2 (3 H )‐one derivatives and the latter into 1, 3, 4‐oxadiazol‐2 (3 H )‐one derivatives. Factors affecting such reactions are discussed.
