The pholoreactivity of 3‐melhyl‐4‐nitro‐5‐styrylisoxazole in solution and adsorbed on silica gel was studied and the photodimers obtained were identified. The structures of the pholoproduels were assigned on the basis of mass and nmr spectra and chemical behavior. Irradiation of the title compound adsorbed on solid or slurry silica gel leads to the same photoproducts obtained from the solution but with a different yield.
