Catechol and 4,5‐dichlorocatechol have been condensed with 1,5‐dichloro‐2,4‐dinitrobenzene to provide benzo[1,2‐ b : 4,5‐ b ]bis[1,4]benzodioxin and its 2,3,9,10‐tetrachloro derivative, respectively. The latter compound is a novel homologue of the extremely toxic 2,3,7,8‐tetrachloro‐dibenzo‐ p ‐dioxin (TCDD).
