Synthesis of 5,6‐dihydro‐2 H ‐lhiopyrans by mild dehydromesylation of the corresponding tetrahydro‐4 H ‐thiopyran‐4‐mesylates using commercial grade Woelrn W‐200 (activity, Super 1) neutral alumina is described. Cis ‐ and trans ‐stereoisomers of 2,6‐diphenyl‐5,6‐dihydro‐2 H ‐thiopyrans were prepared for the first lime without isomerization.
