Lilhiulion of 1‐betizenesulfonylimidazole takes place readily at −20° or 0° in THE. The lithium reagent gives products of addition to typical carhonyl compounds but only in low yield, lodination occurs at the 2‐position, in low yield, and authentic 2‐iodoimidazole is obtained by cleavage ol the henzenesulfonyl group.
