A novel synthesis of 6‐phenylbenzimidazo[1,2‐ c ]benzopyrimidine ( 5 ) by photolysis of 4‐(benzolriazol‐1‐yl‐2‐phenylquinazoline ( 3 ) is described. The acid‐catalysed thermolysis of 3 leads to an extensive degradation yielding 2‐pbenyl‐4‐quinazolinone ( 4 ).
