Treatment of 2,3‐dihydrothiazolo|2,3‐b Iben|othiazolium bromide with sodium acetate in acetic acid gave predominantly 3‐(2‐accloxyethyl)‐2‐benothiazolinelhiorie and the minor product 3‐(2‐acetyllhioelhyl)‐2‐benzothiazolinone. The mechanistic implications of this and previous results are discussed in terms of the reaction of 2‐benzothiazolitielhione and its derivatives with ethylene oxide in acetic acid.
