Abstract 2‐Isopropyl‐8‐quinolinol was prepared by alkylation of 8‐methoxyquinoline followed by demethylation. The 7‐isopropyl‐8‐quinolinol was prepared in three steps from o ‐isopropylphenol. The reaction of 5‐chloromethyl‐8‐quinolinol hydrochloride with alcohols, amines, ethylene glycols and ether‐alcohols gave the corresponding 5‐substituted derivatives of 8‐quinolinol.
