The alkylation of tertiary amines, namely, 2‐dimethylaminoethanol, triethylamine, pyridine and isoquinoline with various alkyl carboxylates was investigated. This reaction afforded the corresponding quarternary ammonium salts, e.g. , methylation of 2‐dimethyl‐aminoethanol with methyl salicylate.
