A series of 4‐aryl‐3,7,7‐trimethyl‐1‐phenyl‐7,8‐dihydro‐1 H ‐pyrazolo[3,4‐ b ]quinolin‐5(6 H )‐ones were synthesized via the three‐component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, 5,5‐dimethyl‐1,3‐cyclohexandione and 5‐amino‐3‐methyl‐1‐phenylpyrazole in ionic liquid without using any catalyst. This protocol has the advantages of easier work‐up, milder reaction conditions, short reaction time, and environmentally benign procedure. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2011).
