A series of novel quinolone heterocyclic derivatives from natural amino acid were synthesized in one‐pot method, which is very beneficial for the industrial operation to save manufacturing costs. These new compounds were characterized by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, infrared spectrum, mass spectrum, and elemental analysis. The preliminary bioassays results revealed that they had certain antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus . J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2010).
