An efficient and novel approach to the synthesis of dialkyl 1‐nitroindolizine‐2,3‐dicarboxylates has been described. A one‐pot reaction between a pyridine, dialkyl acetylendicarboxylate, and bromonitromethane leads to dialkyl 1‐nitroindolizine‐2,3‐dicarboxylates in good yields.
