The condensation of aromatic aldehyde, cyclopentanone, and urea or thiourea in the presence of Ytterbium bis(perfluorooctanesulfonyl)imide complex in perfluorodecalin was used to synthesize a variety of benzylidene heterobicyclic pyrimidinones in excellent yields. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2009).
