Inactive alicyclic mono‐ketones (cyclohexanone and cyclopentanone) were firstly used as reactants to prepare pyrazolopyridine derivatives in good yield through their catalyst‐free reaction with 5‐aminopyrazole and aromatic aldehyde in ionic liquid.
