5‐(Substituted‐phenyl)‐4,6‐dioxo‐4,5,6,7‐tetrahydropyrazolo[3,4‐ d ]pyrimidines derivatives were designed and synthesized, and their structures were identified by spectroscopic data and elemental analysis. From the result of the herbicidal activities, several compounds demonstrated good herbicidal activity. Compound 5f showed better inhibition rate against Zinnia elegans in comparison to 5a , 5b , 5c , 5d , 5e and 5g in the post‐emergence test.
