Cycloadducts of Furan with Arynes Generated from 2‐Bromo‐1,4,5,8‐tetramethoxynaphthalene and 2,6‐Dibromo‐1,4,5,8‐tetramethoxynaphthalene

The reaction of 2-bromo-1,4,5,8-tetramethoxynaphthalene (7) with sodium amide (or LDA) in the presence of a large excess of furan gave the epoxy compound 9. The similar reaction of 2,6-dibromo-1,4,5,8-tetramethoxynaphthalene (8) afforded the diepoxy compound 10. The crystal structure of antidiepoxide 10 was determined by an X-ray crystallography.
