This case report illustrates the role of high‐resolution sonography in the preoperative assessment of a schwannoma of the vagus nerve in the neck. Sonography identified the tumor in the right carotid space and determined its origin from the right vagus nerve, facilitating the surgeon's approach to preserve nerve function. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
