Abstract In a controlled study, rapid oral hydration was found to result in sonographically visible pelvic fluid collections in six of 12 healthy women volunteers. These pelvic fluid collections were in many ways indistinguishable from those seen in a variety of pelvic diseases. An awareness of this association should result in a further reduction of false‐positive diagnoses at pelvic sonography.
