Both isolated lymphoma in the spleen and splenic abscess may give rise to ultrasonic images that show irregular zones of below‐normal echo activity with unimpeded acoustic transmission. The clinical features of splenic abscess and splenic lymphoma overlap considerably and fever is common to both. The distinction between focal splenic abscess and isolated splenic lymphoma may not be possible prior to surgery.
