This study examined the possible harmful effects on the eye of prolonged exposure to ultrasound at diagnostic intensities. The left eyes of 20 rabbits were exposed to 9.5 mHz continuous wave ultrasound at 33.7 mW/cm 2 for one to four hours. The right eyes serves as controls. Careful gross and microscopic examination did not reveal any morphological effects caused by ultrasonic irradiation.
