Ultrasonography of the chest wall has been used to aid in radiation therapy treatment planning. The sonogram reveals the lung surface and the sternum in relation to the skin surface. Tumor tissue tends to be more sonolucent than normal breast tissue. This technique has been used to detect post‐mastectomy recurrent tumor.
