Abstract This paper gives an overview of the way process and product innovation has developed over the last 30 years. The background to innovation is considered by way of a few case studies. The changes that have occurred in the last 30 years are highlighted, and a possible pattern for the future outlined. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry
