Peat and its derived products, such as peat extracts or hydrolysates, offer a variety of possibilities as raw materials for the development of chemical and biochemical processes. Utilised as a fermentation substrate, peat extracts could provide a variety of nutrients to culture media, besides carbohydrates. In this work, Sphagnum peat moss and its extract produced by H 2 SO 4 hydrolysis were analysed for total carbohydrates, reducing sugars, nitrogen, lipids, ash, amino acids and minerals. The results are discussed and compared with previous data.
