After a short discussion of the concept of electrochemical engineering, the immediate history of electrochemical process engineering (EPE) is briefly mentioned. Topics then considered are electrolytic reactor design, process modelling and optimisation, and the development and scale‐up of electroorganic processes. The article concludes with an assessment of the present state of EPE.
