New asymmetrical 2‐monomethine cyanine dyes ( III a—d, IV a—c) and dicationic cyanines( VII a,b) incorporating oxazolo/imidazolo(3,4‐d)pyrimidine were prepared. The new cyanines were identified by spectral determination. The applications of these dyes in the protometric titrations of acids and bases were investigated. Bactericidal and fungicidal activity of selected cyanines ( Ia , II a, b, III b, IV b, c, V , VI and VII b) was tested.
