The figure reveals that MCW has biohydrogen production potential using various seed inoculum during SSF. The optimal conditions for peak hydrogen production (hydrogen production 29.6mL, hydrogen production rate 9.50 mol H 2 /kg‐d and hydrogen yield 0.29 mmol H 2 /g TVS) are Li‐Min sewage sludge, nutrients addition, moisture content 70% and particle size of 1.190~0.590 mm. Nutrient addtion and moisture content > 60% are necessary for biohydrogen production from MCW using SSF. The bioenergy production efficiency could reach 1.842 kWh annual in Taiwan and it could reduce CO 2 emission of 114‐178 kg per year. More details will be discussed by Prof. Chyi‐How Lay on page 199–204 in this issue.
