The production of simultaneous electroluminescence in a single electrochemical cell and in a basic medium has been achieved. Luminol is directly oxidized at the anode to yield an excited emitting species, while it is also oxidized at the cathode to the same emitting species by ClO − , obtained from the reduction of ClO 2 − .
