The authors summarized recent advances concerning gold nanomaterials interact with biological systems, especially for cells. Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) can penetrate into cells and then are trafficked and translocated to different organelles, causing various cellular effects. Moreover, physiochemical properties of GNPs are key factors influencing their cytotoxicity and other biological fates. This articled entitled “Cellular Uptake, Intracellular Trafficking and Biological Responses of Gold Nanomaterials” was contributed by Prof. Chunying Chen who was invited as a Visiting Lecturer of the Chemistry Research Promotion Center in Taiwan (May 2, 2010∼May 8, 2010).
