This study was carried out to determine low‐boiling point hydrocarbon mixtures C 1 ‐C 5 using gas chromatography supplied with a flame ionization detector (FID) and a low‐pole capillary column. The temperature of the column reached −30 centigrade and all components eluted within 4 minutes. Sufficient resolution was available for the components with low retentions. The limits of the relative standard deviations (RSD) were from 0.19% to 2.40%. The method was found to be suitable for the determination of natural gas, petroleum, environmental quality, etc.
